The report print design dialog can be invoked from either the main display or from within the print preview window. The display consists of a number of tabbed areas that provide the means to modify how information in the report is displayed. Areas of interest include the report title, whether or not only selected (highlighted) information is printed, and whether header, footer, grouping and filter information is printed on the report.

The design dialog includes a Preview window that shows the effects of changes you make immediately, so there’s no need to change the design, run the report and then change the design again.

Below are samples of the dialog areas you can use to modify the report appearance and content. Note that a couple of the pages (tabs) you will see on the display are not shown here, as they relate to report types that are not used at present.

View

The View tab contains settings that control which parts of the displayed audio inventory list are printed. For instance, you might not want the cart filter information that’s displayed on-screen to be printed.  You can also control whether or not items are printed on every page or just the first page of the report.

Title Properties

From all tab areas, you can use the [Title Properties] button to modify the report title text and settings. When selected, a dialog similar to the following appears:

The Text tab, shown above, is where the report’s title, if any, is entered. The text entered here will appear on the first page of the report, typically in large type. Do not confuse the title with header and footer text, which appears on every page and generally contains information like date printed, page number, copyright information, etc.

The Properties tab for the report title, shown above, is the place to adjust the font size, style and color for the report title. You can also set a title background color and change the title alignment.

Behaviors

The Behaviors tab contains settings that allow you to control how data within the inventory list is printed. You can choose to print only selected inventory records using the Selection items. If you have displayed data that is grouped, you can force all groups to be expanded for printing by checking the "Groups" item in the Expanding section. The default for this behavior is to print exactly how things are displayed on-screen, meaning that some groupings might be expanded to show data while other groups are displaying only the group information.

If you want to force the printed report to fit horizontally on one page, regardless of the number of columns of information, check the "Auto Width" button in the Size area. In the case where there are more columns of information than would normally fit on a page, checking "Auto-Width" causes the report generator to reduce the size of the text until all information can be fit on one page width. Using this option can cause the printed data to be very small - you may wish to consider either removing columns from the display or changing the paper orientation to landscape.

Formatting

The Formatting tab contains settings that allow for additional control over the printed report’s appearance. You can change the appearance to be more "3D-like" using Look and Feel settings, change how check marks are printed, and display text instead of actually printing a graphic.

To see the effect of these settings, change a setting a look at the Preview window, which will show the effect of the changed setting.

Preview

The Preview tab contains settings that determine whether or not a data row’s preview field is printed and, if so, how it’s printed. These settings are applicable only if the displayed information contains a preview field.

At present, preview fields are not used in iDAF.
